DRK Stamping Mat Review

On the week I was back from Japan, the much waited DRK Stamping Mat restock happened, so I quickly placed an order. Stamping Mat is getting very popular among stamping addicts, and few stamping brands have released their own mat already. I don't have any other mats to compare, but I'll show you what this DRK Stamping Mat can do.

I bought 2 mats, clear and black, and they arrived a week and a half after they were shipped. Let's have a look.

日本から帰った週に、ちょうど待ちに待ったDRKスタンピングマットの再入荷のお知らせが入ってきたので、すぐさまオーダーしました。スタンピングマットはスタンパーさんたちの間で今非常に人気が高く、各スタンピングブランドが次々と独自のマットをリリースしているので皆さん聞いたことがあるかと思います。私はDRKのマット以外は持っていないので比較はできませんが、この記事ではDRKマットの印象と使い方をご紹介したいと思います。

購入したのはクリアと黒のマット２枚。発送から約１週間半で到着。では早速モノを見てみましょう。


These are what I bought. DRK has 4 colours to choose from, clear, pink, turquoise, and black. One mat is sold for $9.70, which I think is reasonable.

こちらが買った２点。DRKのマットは４色（クリア、ピンク、ターコイス、黒）から選べるようになっていて、１枚9.7ドル。かなり魅力的な値段設定です。


I'll focus on the clear mat for the purpose of this review, as the functionality is the same with both mats. DRK Mat is made of silicone, and is roughly 40cm x 30cm. Top part of the mat has coloured splashes where you can test different colour combos, and the right part has drawing of hands and nails. Left part has DRK logo and some patterns.

２枚とも機能は同じなので、このレビューではクリアのマットを中心にご紹介します。DRKマットはシリコンでできており、大きさは約40cm x 30cm。マットの上部は絵の具がはねたような形のカラーチャートとなっており、色の組み合わせをテストできるようになっています。右側は人の手と爪の絵、左側はDRKのロゴと花柄の模様が描かれています。


Better view of each part. As of this writing, DRK Stamping Mat is the only mat which has colour chart like this. I really love the idea, and one big reason that I went for this mat.

So I first tried stamping on the colour chart. I grabbed 3 different stamping polishes (Mundo de Unas Avocado, Pueen Bright Yellow & Ya Qin An Navy) and stamped directly on the mat. As you can see, image doesn't transfer very well to the mat.

まず試してみたのがカラーチャート部分へのスタンピング。スタンピングポリッシュを３本（Mundo de Unas Avocado、Pueen Bright Yellow、Ya Qin An Navy）ほど引っ張り出してきてマットに直接スタンピングしてみました。ご覧のように、柄がきちんと転写されていないのが分かるかと思います。


So I applied topcoat first, and when that's dry, I stamped on it. The transfer is perfect this time. Just be careful when you stamp though, that sometimes your stamper peels off the topcoat and gets stuck to the stamper.

そこで、まずトップコートを塗って乾かしてからその上にスタンプしてみました。今回はバッチリ転写されました。ただ、スタンプするときにたまにスタンパーがトップコートを剥がしてしまい、スタンパーの表面にくっついてしまうことがあるので要注意。


Hand & nail part works the same, so if you're going to make stamping decals, be sure to apply topcoat then stamp on it.

これは右側の手と爪の絵が描かれた部分でも同様。この部分でスタンピングdecalを作成する場合は、必ずトップコートを塗ってからスタンプするようにしてください。


Making stamping decals is easy on DRK Stamping Mat. Once you apply topcoat and stamp on it, you colour the decal as you normally would on stamper, peel it off, and place it onto your nail. I still like the good ole' way of making decals on stamper, but if you don't have many stampers to make multiple decals in one go, this is an ideal option.

DRKスタンピングマットでのdecal作成は非常にシンプル。まずトップコートしてスタンプしたら、スタンパー上でやるのと同様に色付けし、剥がして爪に乗せます。個人的にはこの方法でdecalを作ることはあまりないと思いますが、スタンパーをあまりたくさんお持ちでない方などはこの方法が適しているかもしれません。


This mat isn't just for stamping. When you buy a polish and want to try out immediately, but your nails are already painted. What do you do? Just test on the mat! You can test out what each coat looks like (top image) and also test what designs you want on that polish (bottom image).

このマットはスタンピング以外の目的でも利用できます。ポリッシュを買ったのですぐに試したいけど、さっき爪を塗ったばかりでどうしよう？なんてときはマットで試してみることができます。１度塗り～３度塗りでどんな感じか見たり（上の画像）、ポリッシュの上にどんなデザインを作ろうか確認したり（下の画像）。


What about cleanup? This DRK Mat is acetone resistant, so you can clean with acetone without damaging the mat (top) or simply peel off the polish with sticky tape or lint roller (bottom). If the stamping polish is a stainer (like Mundo de Unas Mexican Pink), I hear it can stain the mat, so be warned.

クリーンアップはどうでしょう？このDRKマットはアセトンに対する耐久性があるため、アセトンを使っても問題ありません（上の画像）。またはセロテープやリントローラーなどでポリッシュを簡単に剥がすこともできます（下の画像）。ただし、ポリッシュがstainer（Mundo de Unas Mexican Pinkなどスタンパーに染みが付くもの）の場合、マットに染みが付く可能性があるので要注意。


Other than testing out colour combos, checking what designs to go for, or making stamping decals, one obvious purpose of this mat is to protect your table from the mess and gives you nice work area. Actually, this was the main reason I wanted a stamping mat. I used to spread newspaper and placed paper towel to work on, but things can get quite messy in no time. I'm happy that this mat makes my work area neat and tidy!

色の組み合わせをテストしたり、どんなデザインにしようか考えたり、スタンピングdecalを作ったりする他に、このマットの言わずもがなの用途として、作業エリアが汚れるのを防ぐことができます。実はマットの一番の購入動機がこれでした。今までは新聞を広げてその上にペーパータオルを置き、その上で作業していたのですが、すぐに汚れるし見た目にもあまりよろしくありませんでした。マットを導入したことで作業エリアがすっきりして満足です。
