Creative Shop Stamper Review - Follow Up

Wednesday, January 14, 2015 20 Comments A+ a-

After I did my first review on the Creative Shop stamper on this post, I almost gave up on this stamper. Then my friend Coppi received her stamper I gifted and she did a massive experiment on it. You can see her post here. It's in Japanese but you'll get an idea with the pics.

Coppi spent half a day trying everything and noticed one thing that makes a difference - the way she scrapes. That's what I didn't mention in my first post so I thought I'd do some more experiments and do the follow-up. I'm still experimenting, so this is just an interim report.

I made few hypotheses and assumptions before going into this experiment:

1. This stamper has a flat head unlike most others on the market. Does that affect the way it's picking up images?

2. It sometimes leaves bold spots when picking up images. Does it make a difference if you fill in with more polish on patterns than usual?

To address the hypothesis #1, I pushed the edge of this stamper right in the holder to make the head round a bit. I didn't check to see if it makes a difference just by doing this, as I tried lots of different things at the same time. Definitely worth a try because the round head should ensure each part of a image be equally picked up by rolling motion.

Now onto hypothesis #2. This is where Coppi's advice comes into play - scraping. By the way, the experiment on my first post was done by my good ole' library card, not the scraper that comes with the stamper. I didn't mention it because I didn't think it would make a difference. To be honest, I didn't like this Creative Shop scraper that's thinner and more flexible than my library card. Harder to work with after getting used to my library card. But then, I tried it in this experiment and it gave me a better result.

Coppi suggested in her post to scrape slowly and very lightly at a low angle once (sort of smearing the polish onto the plate), then scrape again with the same motion to take the polish excess off the plate. She uses a plastic card in her post. I found this very useful. It ensures that every little gap on the image is properly filled with stamping polish. My usual scraping is pretty fast with 45 degrees angle, but you need a different strategy with this stamper.

This the library card I normally use. I scrape at this 45 degrees angle.

This is the Creative Shop scraper. You can see that it's flexible and bendable. This 'warp' when scraping forms lower angle than usual. I scrape very slowly, making sure every little gap is filled with polish. One scrape is enough, but if polish looks overflown, scrape twice.

Also, I roll the stamper very slowly when picking up images, again, to ensure that the stamper picks up every little detail. I don't roll too hard, but not too soft.

また、柄をスタンパーで転がして拾うときもゆっくり動作で。5秒ぐらいかけてスタンパーに細かい箇所まで転写されていくイメージで。転がすときの力の入れ具合は強すぎず、弱すぎず。この辺は慣れです^_^;

And here is one of the results. Only minor bold spots compared to my first result. I have to adjust the pressure when I scrape because the polish is overflown a bit on the right bottom of each image. Otherwise it looks good!

Better pic of the image above. Only minor bold spots. I think I'm in the right direction now, but I know this isn't the end of this journey. I'm still having trouble with some of the other images even with this method. I will keep trying to get the best result!

Hi Cassis,
Thanks so much for the honest review and the update! I recently ordered mine from Rainbow Connection and am waiting for them (they'll ship only at the end of Jan). I'm hoping I get something usable :)
Cheers!

No problem Mithila! I'm so desperate to get this stamper to work because I bought three LOL. If it looks like yours doesn't work properly, try what I said here and let me know! :D

Sakico

Haha, thanks Minnie! :D It's getting all technical, isn't it!? I don't normaly pursue like this, but I'm pretty desperate to use this stamper.

Yeah the scraping method can affect your stamping result, so if you're having trouble now, you might wanna change the scraper. I don't use the standar black scraper that comes with many XL round stampers. They degrade with acetone use. Plastic card serves me perfectly, just not for this CS stamper.

wow!!! this is a wonderful review Cassis. I got my stamper on december and saw reviews from Swanette (Nailstamp4fun) so I learned about rolling instead of pressing, but still had some pick up problems (bald spots), after reading this review I did push down my stamper into the holder to make it a bit round. I think my al time favorite is Messymansion stampers I own a set of firm and squishy firm and love them, I just wish they were the size of the Creative. ;) . Thank you for this awesome review.

Glad the review was helpful, Evelyn!^^ Yeah, my CS stamper is a bit tricky but it has started to behave well after few adjustments :D

I keep missing out on Messy Mansion colour heads, but will get them as soon as they come back in stock next time! Julia @Messy Mansion is awesome, so I think she will consider creating bigger heads^^

Hi girl! i just got my stamper last week and the first trials were ok and then when I primed it, the results were really bad ... like one girl that mentions before, i also got the messy mansion squishy set and I love it, i didnt have to prime it.In the first days I felt really sad because I thought I was the only one who couldn't make it work. Yesterday I spent like 3 hours with different polishes (not only special for stamping) and i was quite frustrated. Today I found your post about this stamper and that is recent information (last month) and I feel so happy that I am not the only one. Today I tried with the rolling montion and more thick polishes (like mundo de uñas or handy or konad) and the results were so much better than yesterday. I am thinking that in my experience, stamping polish also has to do with the results you get. However, today I will try to use this technique you mention ( i didnt even consider the flat head or the circular head) and i will let you know my results. Thank you again for making this post because it was a light in my dark tunnel using the creative stamper haha. Greetings from Mexico!

You're welcome, Danitza! Hope you can get yours working. This was the result with MdU, so I knew that regular polishes wouldn't work great. But I did try with my regular polish (China Glaze HeliYum that I know works for stamping) with this CS stamper, but the result was miserable even with this new tactics.

Also I heard the silicon reacts differently depending on the weather/season, and some girls just left it untouched for few weeks and it started working again. Anyway, please let me know how it goes!

Hey Cassis! It's me again! I have to tell you that I left my CS untouched inside of a sandwich bag for like 3 weeks (also because I didnt have time to do my nails haha) but yesterday I did my nails and I was going to use only my messy mansion pink stamper but I thought to give a try to the CS stamper. And well one thing I did different is that I covered the full image in MdU, then I use the CS scraper super super slowly and with an angle like 30 degrees and I also use the roll technique and it worked better than before. The plate that I used was one from Cheeky and my manicure looked better than the first time ... so far I only will use MdU for the CS stamper but I also have changed my technique when I scrape, and I really mean super slowly haha ... here in Guadalajara the weather is hot and a bit dry ... well for me 28°C is super hot haha but considering that weather affects stamping, that might be another factor ... I feel happy that this manicure I did was better than my first uses and it gives me hope that one day I will "master" using my CS hahahaha .... maybe if I decide to do a video about how I did my manicure I will let you know so you can see "my own technique" .... thank you again for your comments and greetings!

Thanks for the feedback, Danitza! Nice to know that yours is starting to work better :D I read on the facebook group too about putting it in the plastic bag for a while. Gotta try and see :) It's summer going into autumn here in Australia, with temperature going up near 40 degrees sometimes. It's getting cooler now but let's see how my CS stamper reacts with temperature change.

After the review, I only used twice for my real manis but both times worked fine. That big head is definitely a plus, so I'll use it more often and try to get use to it :)

Such a great and helpful blog post. My creative stamper was good at first but it misses spots all the time now and I'm ready to give up! I also don't like the rolling method you have to use with this stamper as I miss bits of the design. I need a squishy stamper as my nails are very curvy. Could you recommend another stamper? FabUrNails or Messy Mansion perhaps? Thanks so much for any advice :)

Thanks Claire! Aww don't give up! CS owner said to leave the stamper head in a ziplock bag overnight when it starts to perform bad. I haven't tried it but it does seem to react and perform differently over time or depending on the climate.

I have just written up another long stamper review post and am about to post it. This time from Messy Mansion. I bought Soft (pink) and Medium Soft (yellow) sets and am so impressed. These and Fab Ur Nails stampers perform great, although as far as squishiness goes, MoYou London rectangle is the king of marshmallow. Hope you like the post, and feel free to ask if you have any q's :)

You should get sticky marshmallow XL stamper from moyou London. They are the same size as creative stamper and look the same, except moyou one has their name engraved at the bottom of the holder cup. Plus, they come in a set of 2 (white & transparent heads with 1 holder) for £9.99 and you can choose sticky (for geginner) and non-sticky (fot advanced). Or you can get just 1 (either white or transparent head with holder) on their own for £6 each, which also come in stivky & non-sticky. I purchased a set of sticky heads and I gotta tell you I wish I purchased 2 of transparent ones instead. Although it would have cost £12 instead of a set £9.99, it would have been better value as transparent one picks up great and doesn't need to be Primed (plus I would get 2 holder cups instead of 1). White stamper head is a pain in the butt to work with even after I Primed it. It still have bald spots. BTW, I watched so many reviewes on YouTube and read online reviews about these moyou stampers and no one ever mentioned once that they tears easily. The reason being, they are made with super soft marshmallow material like casis said with her moyou rectangle stamper (same or even softer) and the material is so soft that it makes it fragile. So when I stamp (whether I roll or press down,), the stamper head gets push against the rim of the cup holder as they are so soft and squishy. So after just 2 uses, I noticed that the stamper head rim where it touches the rim of the holder cup got little tears and bits of silicone started coming off. I thought I messed it up but seems it wasn't my fault as most people on you tube got the same little tears around the rim when I ask them in comments. Now after 4 uses, I see a line cracked about 1cm in the middle of the stamper as a result of me trying to get the stamper head squeaky clean before use. Since they are super sticky, every little bit if dust sticks to them and impossible to clean with lint roller. So I tried to remove it, scrape it, pick it up with my nail and that crack happened. I'm so annoyed as I had high hopes for it cause of all the good first impression review avout them. I had to waiti 4days as it was out of stock then wait another 3 more days to receive it then that happened when I used it. I wish all these youtubers would have done the updated reviews on them like casis did with CS. Then I would have been aware of the problems I could face. Don't get me wrong I still love them. I just wish I've known to not push it down hard to cause tears. Sorry for long post, thought I gave you info on the moyou stamper which is like a twin of CS but sticker and true marshmallow. As you've got curve nails, I think they be good for you but don't push it so hard when you use them and tape the rim of the holder cup to avoid tears (although the steel rim of holder cup isn't sharp to touch, I assume it's sharp enough for marshmallow head to cause tears). Hope this helps.

Have you tried the moyou stamper heads that looks just like CS except they are true marshmallow and come in white & transparent? If so, what do you think of them? Thanks for the great review as alwyas. Love from London. Xoxo

No I haven't tried MoYou ones yet. I have quite a few working stampers, so I'm not in a hurry to get those. Although, that size would be ideal for testing stamping plates on paper lol. Harunouta (Japanese Born Pretty) is sending me a CS lookalike stamper soon, so I'll do a review on that one when it arrives :)
